About Farm Fresh Richmond

Farm Fresh is a Virginia-owned, independently-operated grocery store, deli, and butchery in the Tobacco Row/Shockoe Bottom district of Richmond.

The grocery store first opened its doors in 2003 under the name "The Market at Tobacco Row"—a much anticipated and welcome addition to the neighborhood. In 2018, then-owner Supervalu sold the store to Neighborhood Grocery Holdings, run by several grocery veterans with stores in downtown Charlottesville and Crozet.

While Farm Fresh Richmond went through several owners and iterations before settling as it exists today, the Farm Fresh family knows one trait is more important than ever: a true dedication to customer service. Since 2000, the cornerstone of NGH's business has been our relationship with customers. At Farm Fresh, that means our team strives to serve the community with the best products for the best price—and with superior customer service.

Whether it's the produce manager who jokes with you as she points out the season's best local tomatoes or the seafood employee who stays past her shift to make sure your steamed shrimp come out just right, true customer service shines through with every visit to Farm Fresh. After all, we think it's the customers that make this business truly special.

“‘The opportunity came up and we looked at it and we fell in love with the store and the neighborhood,’” said Raphael Strumlauf, Neighborhood Grocery’s managing director of operations.

“Farm Fresh also will look to carry more locally made products, going as far as putting a Blanchard’s Coffee Roasting Co. cafe inside the store that was formerly a Starbucks.”

“‘Long-time customers of this store will be able to continue enjoying many of the same Farm Fresh offerings they’ve come to love, including the ever-popular Farm Fresh fried chicken. This is a very good outcome for the employees and we’re thankful there will be new opportunities for them going forward.’”
